On June 3, 2025, the seven-member composition of the Fourth Chamber of the Council of State discussed the application of Professor Panos Lazaratos for the annulment of the decisions of the Minister of Interior by which the Greek citizenship was granted to the members of the former royal family. The applicant challenges the legality of those decisions, arguing that the use of the adjective ‘De Gres’ violates Article 4(7) of the Constitution, which prohibits the conferring of titles of nobility or distinction on Greek citizens.
